What should I wear for my dog photo shoot in Surrey?

What should I wear for my adventure dog photo shoot?

Other than “what time of day is best for our photo shoot”, this is the question I get asked most by my clients: What should I wear for my dog photo shoot? What colours will look best in the photos?

Formal or casual wear for your dog photo shoot?

My photo shoots are totally fun and not a black-tie and white sofa sort of event. So unless ‘penguin’ is your usual look, don’t wear a suit!

The aim of my photo shoots is to record you and your dog at your usual self, enjoying each others company, and just having fun.
So just wear something you like the shape of and are comfortable in. I can help you select the best colours for your location and time of day/year.

What colours should you wear for your dog photo shoot?

The colours you choose for your clothing is huge contributor to how your photos will look.
I will happily help you choose the colours to wear on the day but here are a few pointers that might help you narrow it down already:

How to avoid the floating head phenomena in photos

Think about the colours of the environment in which your photo shoot will take place. Is there a lot of lush green like the grass and bushes? Then you shouldn’t be wearing green unless it’s a very different shade, like really bright or really dark green.

And for the love of dog, do not turn up in a lavender flower print top to a lavender field photoshoot! Or in your photos you will just turn into a giant lavender with the head floating above it, and your dog happily standing next to the floating head.

There’s something to be said for wearing patterned clothing that includes the odd colour from the surrounding. Done right, this will work really well. Done wrong, and …see above note about lavender.

What’s your dog wearing for their photo shoot?

Yes, I just asked what your dog is wearing! And not to judge your dog’s fashion sense.

It looks really nice in photos when the colours of your dog’s collar and hardness go well with the outfit you are wearing.

I am aware that most of our dogs do not have as extensive a wardrobe as we do, but it really does make a difference in the photos if you can colour match yourself up.
If you don’t have matching colours, make sure they are complimenting each other.

Should the humans colour match their outfits for your dog photo shoot?

If there’s more than one of you, of course, you will have to make sure your clothes work together in the photos.

Ideally, you pick something with at least one matching or similar colour in everyone’s outfit.

While everyone has their individual style, your colour choices must not clash.

Need help choosing an outfit for your dog photo shoot?

I hope this blog post went a little way in answering the question: What should I wear for my dog photo shoot?

If you are unsure or just can’t decide between the final two options, I am more than happy to have a look at a photo of your clothing beforehand and help narrow it down.
Or you can bring a spare outfit to your photo shoot if it turns out your first choice doesn’t work.
