Top tip: Everlasting love can be found right behind your dog’s ear. Keep scratching it, and you will be loved forever.
I’m Nadina Bee, dog lifestyle and outdoor wedding photographer from Guildford in Surrey.
The outdoors is kind of my thing. Perhaps because I grew up on a (nearly) defunct farm. I say ‘nearly defunct’, because we had two pet horses and a dog. So we weren’t a farming family, but the stables were still in use. Life happened outdoors, in every season, in ever weather, and since I was 18 years old: always with a dog by my side.
Dogs are just my favourite people, and I have not been without them for 25 years. I currently live with my two gods, sorry, dogs: a Yorkshire Terrier and a Borzoi. We spend a lot of time out of doors, walking the Surrey Hills or playing with my goldfishes in the pond every day.
However, there was one thing that I was missing during my childhood: the sea! There is something secret, magical, untamed about the sea that has always fascinated me and draws me to it. My dogs love the beach for an entirely different reason, but at least the whole family agrees that it is our favourite place for walks.
I love the unusual, the magical and the untamed in pretty much everything. Maybe that is why I love fantasy stories. Seriously, if I could move to Rivendell…who am I kidding, my and my daemon’s bags have been packed for decades. Unfortunately, the letter from Hogwarts never came, and I have given up on waiting for Gandalf to call.* So my husband and I are now supplying our own adventures, with the help of Clementine, our VW Camper. Follow me on Instagram or Facebook if you want to hear and see more of Clementine or my dogs.
* did you guess the references: Tolkien (the Hobbit) , Pullman (His Dark Materials) and Rowling (Harry Potter)
MY PHOTOGRAPHIC JOURNEY
I could now tell you the heart-warming story of how I picked up my first camera as a child and fell in love with photography… yes all true. But damn, that would be so boring!
Bottom line is: I love a good photo. I love creating memories, and I love capturing those memories. I also value photography, because I have experienced how important they become years after they are taken.
Our dogs change all the time. And while there are know milestones they meet in life, like learning to walk propperly without the adorable puppy wobble, we never quite know when it will happen.
I first realized this, when my first borzoi Bebe hit such a milestone that I was not prepared for. He had a thing of jumping up at me and kissing me. I didn’t really have time when my friend asked me to model with him, but she wanted the photos for her upcoming exhibition, so we squeezed a shoot in one very early and cold moring.
Four weeks later, Bebe developped a back problem prevented him from jumping up from then on. As sad as it is that these moments are gone, the photos of it always make me smile without fail. The photos of his sweet gesture, became treasures the moment he had jumped up for the last time. And that is, why I value good photos of my dogs (and other family members).
